It’s official: RoTLD will charge from March 2018 a fee for the “.RO”
RoTLD – The Romanian Register of .ro domains inform us that on March 1st, 2018, the transition to the yearly registration and maintenance system for the .ro domains will be made. Starting with March 1st, 2018, the .ro domains will be purchased and renewed for a limited time period, between a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 10 years. The yearly registration and maintenance system will be available for payment from March 1st, 2018 through the authorized RoTLD partner that administrates the .ro domain.
The RoTLD clients can receive detailed information about the procedural changes and updates which will be implemented on March 1st, 2018 by accessing the web page www.rotld.ro.
The expiration date for .ro domains will be calculated by taking into account the principle that the old registration fee must cover at least 5 years of maintenance. For the verification of the expiring date of your .ro domain, RoTLD provides its clients with a simulation application for the expiration date of the .ro domains.
For the alignment to the European directives, respecting the best practices and in compliance with the ICANN recommendations, RoTLD kindly requests upon the Rules of Registration (Article 20) and the Registration Contract (Article 4) available at www.rotld.ro, the verification and update of the contact information, by using the online interface available at www.rotld.ro in the section „Domain Administration -> On-Line” or through a RoTLD authorized partner (registrar) that administrates your .ro domain.
The annual fee will be in the amount of 6 euros, excluding VAT, for each domain.
Virtually about half of the nearly 900,000 “.ro” domains existing today were registered by July 1, 2012 and their owners will be required to pay a maintenance fee. Estimates show, however, that only 50% of the owners of the 450,000 sites registered by 1 July 2012 will pay this fee when notified.
